Match: AIS vs Brisbane Roar
Date: Saturday 02/01/2010
We were confident going into this week’s fixture against Brisbane Roar at home and we were looking to get on top early. We had the majority of possession early on as Brisbane was sitting back absorbing the pressure. However we failed to penetrate their defence and it was Brisbane who scored first in the 13th minute when we turned over possession and they broke through the middle of the park. The ball was worked wide before being cut back into the box to be slotted past Aaron Lennox.
Not long after we had our best chance after a great individual effort down the left from Eli Babalj hit the post, and Brisbane replied with a powerful long range effort which hit the crossbar.
Brisbane begun the second half as they ended the first, and after a long ball over the top they had their second. Mark Warren had a long range shot from the left which was saved by the Brisbane goalkeeper but it fell to Terry Antonis who tucked the ball into the net, only to have it disallowed due to an offside ruling. The game really opened up towards the end with Brisbane hitting the crossbar from a free kick just outside the box, and we had yet another chance go begging as we missed a one-on-one at the opposite end. The match finished 2.0.
