Match: AIS v Gold Coast
Date: Saturday 27/02/2010

AIS travelled to the Gold Coast last weekend to play in the National Youth League (NYL) against Gold Coast United. It was quite a trip up to the Gold Coast which didn’t live up to its name. We got to the game with very heavy rain saturating us and the field. Gold Coast United lined up with a strong team, naming five of their regular first team players in the squad. Gold Coast needed a win to stay in contention for the finals.

The game kicked off and Gold Coast put pressure on us straight away and were rewarded with a goal eight minutes into the game when Ben Halloran finished truly. As the game wend on, GCU got a free kick just outside the box which regular first grader Matt Osman stepped up and easily converted, putting the ball past the wall and into the bottom right corner.

As the game went on the conditions got worse and Matt Osman stepped up again to score their third goal from another free kick which deflected off the wall giving ‘Keeper Aaron Lennox no chance. Three – nil down in the 15th minute.

We were being caught out and out played all over the park but we didn’t play our usually game and didn’t adjust well to the conditions which continued to deteriorate throughout the match.

After half time Ben Halloran managed to score again for the Gold Coast and a few minutes later they netted the ball for their final score of the match. The game got called off in the 62nd minute due to the conditions which match officials thought were unsafe with the final score 5-0 the Gold Coast’s way.

Next week we play Melbourne Victory in the last game for the season and hopefully go out with a win.
