Match: AIS vs Brisbane Roar
Date: Saturday 30/01/2010
This week our preparation towards the Brisbane Roar game was a lot better than previous occasions. We knew they would follow similar tactics as last time when they dropped off and stayed compact to make it hard to get the ball forward then hit us on the counter attack. By changing our style of play the game seemed completely different than last time and this was evident in the early stages of the match.
The AIS had many early opportunities to go ahead but poor finishing in front of goal let them down. A 25 yard free kick from Brisbane had keeper Aaron Lennox spooked as it bounced off the inside of the post and cleared safely. Brisbane had most of possession during mid stages of the half but failed to created genuine opportunities. In the 32nd minute the AIS broke the deadlock with a left foot strike from Mustafa Amini off a well placed header from Patrick Dixon. Towards the end of the half AIS finished strongly but couldn’t covert there opportunities.
The start of the second half was a disaster when Brisbane Roar’s Timothy Smits picked up a loose ball and scored in the 54th minute. Scores remained deadlocked going into the final ten minutes. The AIS’ Marc Warren had a shot which hit the underside of the bar but didn’t cross the line and in the 89th minute the AIS failed to score off a corner when Kevin Davison’s volley was cleared off the line. Brisbane capitalized on some poor defending and scored from a well constructed counter attack in the 90th minute. Matthew Mundy scored the sealer with the match finishing 2-1 in the Roar’s favour.
