Match: AIS v Sydney FC
Date: Saturday 20/02/2010
AIS loses 3-1 to Sydney FC at home.
Sydney FC travelled to Canberra on the weekend to take on the AIS at the AIS Athletics Track. It was a warm day and both teams were in for a hard game to try and take the win.
After a delayed start to the game, both teams looked dangerous having chances in the opening 20 minutes.
Sydney FC opened the scoring with a rocketing shot from outside the box. It caught the AIS defence and goalkeeper off guard and slammed into the back of the net to make it 1-0. Again some hard soccer was being played. After a great little darting run from Ryan Edwards, he was taken down in the box and a penalty was awarded. Mustafa Amini stepped up to the spot to try and level the score, however the keeper picked the right way and saved the shot and also the follow up. When the halftime whistle went the score remained 1-0.
After a talk from the coach at halftime, we went out to try and dig out a victory in the second half. Both teams again had chances to put the ball in the back of the net and once again it was Sydney to capitalize on the chance. Another rocket from outside the box sailed out of reach of the AIS goalkeeper and went into the top corner to put Sydney in a promising 2-0 lead. Shortly after Sydney again found themselves behind the AIS defence and crossed the ball for a one touch finish to put Sydney 3-0 up. The game seemed out of reach for the AIS then but a perfectly placed free kick from Jake Barker Daish flew into the bottom corner of the Sydney goal and the score was now 3-1. This gave the AIS a bit of hope but time was against them and it was too late to gain a victory.
Next week AIS travel to the Gold Coast to play Gold Coast Youth. We are looking forward to this game and are hoping to gain our 3rd win of the season with a good performance away from home.
