Game v. Brisbane Roar – Wednesday 18th November, 2009
We travelled to Brisbane yesterday to play Brisbane Roar. It was very humid but we are pretty well acclimatised to those conditions and so we felt we would cope OK. We were feeling very confident after our 4 – 4 draw last weekend with Adelaide and we scored early from a penalty by Dado Lokvancic after some great leadup play from kamal Ibrahim. We continued to pressure their goal but at around the 20 min mark we conceded a soft goal which was disappointing due to our earlier pressure. We should have handled our disappointment better as it led us to concede 2 more soft goals before half time. We did have our chances but failed to convert.
At half time our coach, Gary Van Egmond, was very unhappy with us and disappointed in the way we reacted to their first goal. He wanted us to be more disciplined in the second half which we were initially until the Roar scored their 4th goal 15 mins in due to a lack of defensive effort throughout the whole team. The rest of the game was fairly non-eventful except for a few fiery exchanges due to some bad tackles. However we finished on a positive note when right at the end of the game in the 92nd minute John Martinoski scored an awesome goal. Despite this, we were disappointed with our overall effort and we know need to improve our discipline particularly in defence for our game this weekend against Central Coast Mariners.
