What is acne?

Acne vulgaris (also known as acne, blemishes, pimples, spots or zits) is a common skin disease, affecting 85-100% of people at some time during their lives. It most often affects adolescents during puberty.

Acne is characterised by non-inflammatory comedones (whiteheads and blackheads), and by inflammatory pustules and nodules in its most severe form. It affects the areas of skin with the densest population of sebaceous glands.

It is readily treatable, and important to treat early.
