What causes acne?
The most common triggers of acne are:
• Excess oil (sebum) production
• Dead skin build-up and blocked pores
• Build-up of bacteria
Hormonal changes occurring during puberty may also play a role. During this period a variety of hormones and biological factors stimulate the growth, function, or transformation of brain, bones, muscles, skin and reproductive organs.
Genetics is also a leading cause of acne. If a member of your family had acne as a teenager, there is a chance that there will be an inherited tendency towards the condition.
