Brayden - Our Rugby League Winner

1. What was your favourite part of the training session?

I definitely think the whole week was worth it. I learnt a lot of things about footy and keeping yourself fit for games. My favourite part was probably the recovery center. They had massage lounges and spas, but the ice baths were freezing.

2. Did you meet any big names in RL? What were they like?

The coaching staff were all pretty good in their day... Rod 'rocket' Reddy who played for the dragons spent a lot of time with us. Wise Kativerata, who also played with the dragons was helping out too. The AIS squad played a trial game against the Dragons under 18's squad. The 1st graders were training at Wollongong while we were there. E.g. Darius Boyd, Brett Morris, Ben Hornby and Wayne Bennett. They were all pretty laid back and enjoyed a laugh.

3. What did the training consist of? What was the toughest?

The training was split into heaps of different sessions. We did skills sessions, fitness testing, wrestling, kicking, and recovery. We also sat through a few lectures. They talked about time management, hydration, stretching and there was a little talk about careers and education away from football.

4. How long have you been playing footy? Where do you play? And what position?

I started playing footy in year 6, so that's about 5 years ago. I've played at a few clubs, I played 4 years for Guyra and 1 year for Inverell West. This year I'll be playing for the Tingha Tigers with their under 18's squad. I usually play fullback or centre. Depending on what positions need filling.

5. Who do you barrack for?

I've always gone for the roosters. I've copped a hard time recently after their 2009 season.

6. What have you learnt from the training session?

The training session was really helpful with a lot of things I have always wanted to improve on. Especially the technical side of rugby league which isn't stressed on too much in bush footy. I am also finding I have a much better idea of how to control my fitness and train more effectively.

7. What would you like to say about OXY?

Along with the training session OXY also gave me a year supply of their products. I've been using them ever since they sent them and they actually work!!! Also I think its great that they have provided this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me and the other winners. Thanks heaps!

From His Father

1. How do you think winning the training session affected Brayden?

I think he was over the moon just to think he would be rubbing shoulders with some of the best there are in the country and being able to see how they train and what is involved in putting together the squad. He has always been very motivated towards rugby league and this just gave him a little extra. It actually took a few days for it to sink in that he was heading to a training session with the AIS rugby league squad.

2. What was the highlight of the training session for you?

I would say meeting the guys involved with the squad. They were all very welcoming and down to earth making us feel right at home. It was also a buzz to see first hand the technology and methods used to try out and train the athletes.

3. What would you like to say about OXY?

I think it is great that OXY has provided the opportunity, through this competition, for the young chosen few, to live their dream whether they are athletes or just passionate about their sport. It is indeed a rare opportunity for most and something that will be treasured by most for a very long time. For this I would like to personally thank OXY and sincerely hope they realize just what this experience has meant for these young people.
